Welcome to Shaka Surf Lessons! My name is Josh Smith. I was born and raised in Ormond Beach, FL. I've been surfing for 25 years. Loving every chance to get out in the water. My life was always about traveling and catching the next wave and teaching others how to surf no matter if I was here at home or on the other side of the world. Seeing someone overcome their fear of the ocean to jump on a board and catch their first wave and to see their smile was the best thing ever. As I grew older I was a part of Christian Surfers doing missionary work and creating surf schools in Central America. I was able to share the love of surfing and to always encourage some one no matter what their going through in life to keep striving for Christ and to keep pursuing their goals. A few years later I started working as a Ocean Rescue Lifeguard here in Volusia County. The following summer I enlisted into the Army Reserve for 6 years while working for Beach Safety. I became an EMT and pursued a lifestyle

of rescue and saving lives everyday on the beach. I always had a heart for people. To provide customer service, making sure people are safe and well educated with the ocean and to ultimately have fun. After years of first responder work I finally desired to create my own surf lesson business to share the love of surfing again and to impact lives out in the water that makes a difference. My goal is to teach you everything to do with surfing from paddling, jumping up on the board, ocean tides, currents and to ultimately become a surfer.
